
Naturopathic Medicine
Dr. Emily Chan, ND graduated Summa Cum Laude from the California State University Hayward, with a BS in biology, clinical laboratory sciences, and a minor in music. She later pursued her doctorate in Naturopathic medicine at Bastyr University, interning at the Functional Medicine Research Center in Gig Harbor, WA and Emergency Department at Evergreen Hospital.
Dr. Chan specializes in gastrointestinal health, adrenal fatigue, bone health, cardiovascular/metabolic health, thyroid disorders, auto-immune disorders, allergies, weight loss, environmental toxicity, immune support, neurotransmitter and hormonal balance, childhood learning disorders, and multiple medical complaints.
Her passion as a doctor is to provide the most efficacious treatment in the gentlest way. She views herself as her patient's coach, resource, ally, and supporter. She believes in the power of developing a therapeutic relationship with patients and then empowering them to take charge of their own health.
When Dr. Chan was seven, her mother developed an inflammatory joint condition that completely disabled her. She was on crutches, prednisone, and cortisone shots for eight months. In desperation, she sought a naturopath who put her on intestinal repair and detoxification protocols, which at the time, she thought, "had nothing to do with her knee." Her joints completely healed and she was even able to have another baby. This early experience shaped Dr. Chan's life.
Dr. Chan's love of medicine and interest in world wide humanitarian efforts led her to Beijing China, where she worked with children with irreparable birth defects. Through her efforts to further education in others, her dedication to integrative medicine, Dr. Chan currently holds numerous speaking engagements throughout Massachusetts, New York, and Washington State.
Dr. Chan is a former member of the San Francisco Symphony Youth Orchestra and Seattle Philharmonic. She currently performs with the Waltham Symphony. Dr. Chan appears regularly on a local access television program titled "A Healer in Every Home". Her writings have been published, including professional medical publications such as NDNR. She is an active member of both The American Association of Naturopathic Physicians (AANP) and The Massachusetts Society Of Naturopathic Doctors (MSND). In her spare time, she likes to be outdoors kayaking, exploring Boston, cooking, laughing, spending time with family and friends and mentions wanting to learn sailing or skiing.
