What is Comprehensive Brain Integration (CBI)?

Comprehensive Brain Integration is the use of non-invasive acupressure techniques to re-establish and maintain precise synchrony and timing of the brain. This synchrony is the basis for effective processing of information, our ability to make appropriate timely decisions, and regulate our emotions even in stressful circumstances.

What causes loss of CBI?

The brain is time-bound—thinking is the result of the integration of diverse brain functions. Loss of timing or synchronisation results in the inability to perform mental tasks dependent upon an integrated brain. When this happens this is termed loss of brain integration. The primary cause of loss of integration is the activation of the brain's survival defence mechanisms in the face of psycho-emotional trauma. Trauma (perceived by the individual) "shuts down" our thinking and problem-solving abilities for our survival. This may be expressed as the loss of ability to perform specific mental functions such as reading, spelling or mathematics, in the case of learning disabilities, or more generally, difficulties finding our way in a crowd, feeling comfortable at a party, making effective decisions when under stress, or forming and articulating our thoughts and dreams and controlling our general emotional states.

In the case of both learning disabilities and regulation of our emotional states, the underlying core is psycho-emotional trauma. The origin of this trauma is normally in early childhood, and generated by survival programs outside of our consciousness. Because this loss of brain integration happens at such a deep and subconscious level it is extremely difficult to identify and resolve. CBI Kinesiology provides a direct interface between the subconscious emotional and energetic systems of the body and our consciousness. Using muscle monitoring (as a form of bio-feedback), and its interface with the acupuncture system the CBI Kinesiologist is able to both identify the issue and the appropriate acupressure technique to facilitate resolution of the underlying survival defence mechanism. Accessing these deep emotional trauma centers in the brain, followed by the use of specific acupressure techniques allows the resolution of deep trauma that is otherwise difficult to move.

How does CBI work?

As trauma causes the loss of brain integration, and precise synchrony and timing is lost, the ability to self regulate and think under stress becomes more and more difficult. Until the brain re-sychronizes itself, function remains compromised. Thankfully the brain/body system has many ways of re-synchronizing. Removal from the stressful situation, laughing, crying, sleeping, talking to a friend, or more directed activities such as yoga and mediation will effectively resolve the stress, at least momentarily. However, in the face of more intractable or repeated trauma, frequently these natural interventions fail.

When these methods fail, a more specific approach becomes necessary. The CBI techniques allow the practitioner to rapidly locate the source of de-synchronization deep within the brain. Utilizing resonance between acupressure points and specific brain areas, the CBI Kinesiologist is able to reconnect and synchronize deep brain circuits disrupted by traumatic stress. Re-establishing resonance potentially alters blood flow patterns in the brain providing increased access to the frontal lobes, our problem solving center. Once these circuits are fully integrated, other therapies previously limited in their effect, can suddenly open the door to full resolution.

Who benefits from CBI?

Everyone. Because everyone has experience trauma of some kind, and therefore loss of brain integration, at least in certain circumstances. The extent and duration of trauma experienced, largely determines the extent of loss of brain integration, and the number of brain circuits compromised. Due to the vulnerability of the developing brain, most trauma originates in early childhood between birth and age 5. These compensated subconscious circuits then become the underpinnings of our understanding of ourselves and how we experience our life.
